Quick facts and some lyrics

Welcome to the all new soap-box-preaching sarcastrix!

First up, two little facts to knock your socks off...

  1. Toronto ships 120 trucks of garbage a day to Michigan because we have nowhere else to put it.
  2. 80% of all household waste is organic (and as such is compostable).

Next, we have some song lyrics to nag at your brain...
(Name that tune to score valuable points)

  1. We can't do nothing thinking someone else will make it right. (12 points)
  2. Ignorance, it sets your standards. (23 points)
  3. Freedom of speech is words that they will bend. (4 points)
  4. And if you look away,
You'll be doing what they say.
    And if you look alive,
You'll be singled out and tried.
    (9 points)

I'm completely stumped! I'll just crawl away now. But in parting, I'll take a stab that Tracy Chapman and/or Ani DiFranco wrote some of them.

Oh dear, I guess since you don't know me I'll have to narrow the playing field a bit and say that I like my music with plenty of Y chromosomes in it.

Suffice it to say, those guesses head in the completely wrong direction. Oh, so wrong...

I think I'll give you a couple of points just for trying out, though.

Sorry. Wrong genre altogether... I've never even heard of the second dude.

I'm going to have to google them! I'm so curious now. I'll forfeit the points and refrain from posting the answers. BUT I MUST KNOW!

The internet insists that I'm a wee bit off on the first one, but I'm convinced that - however they may have written it - that's how they sing it. Aside from that, they're all pretty easy to find.

Holy Crap, was I far off! I forgot about your love of Social D. Got them all now, even the Canadian one, except for the "can't do nothing" one. Now that I have a better idea of the genres, I'll root it out.

Why do people always peg me for the folksy, pothead type of music instead of the screaming, angry, obnoxious sort? I don't get it.

I meant no disrespect. The lyrics just seemed hippy-ish. I'm sure mixed with loud guitars and feedback they're just as appropriate.

Nah, just in general. People are always surprised the first time they get in my car and Rollins Band or Motorhead or Tool comes screaming out at them.
